- daily bread -

While doing the shopping on Saturday - we walked into town, while the snow whirled down around us - in a wonderfully deserted town centre, we managed to find a few little treats. In one shop (Hema) they were selling Dutch style tarts (vlaaien) half price, in the same shop Polly had hot chocolate with cream on top and we shared some gorgious brownie cakes. In the supermarket we hoped to find bread, but seen as the warnings for snow blizzards and weather emergencies were taken very seriously, all the bread had gone. And we had none in the freezer... Nothing for it but to make some.

Which i did yesterday. Unfortunately my camera packed in before i could snap the end result, but halfway through it looked something like this:

(Take note of all the debris around the bowl...)

A few years back i baked bread almost daily. Because it tasted nicer, and it was cheaper and the process is quite pleasant, almost therapeutic. Now it only happens when i get it all together in the weekends, or when there's a special holiday coming up - Easter, or Christmas. Or when the shops have al sold out of bread...
