- get back -

So there...
They're all back at school, in various degrees of enthusiasm (going from Max's lukewarm to Polly's sky-high...), and i've not had a morning to myself yet...

Tuesday was filled with arranging the trip i'm planning to make with my friend Patricia to England (a quick one, to quell my 'home'sickness, since we won't be able to come over as a family for another 6 months... Patricia has been wanting to go for donkey's years and now that her youngest is nearly two, she felt the time was right), which involved ringing up
Norfolklines to book a ferry crossing, a hostel in Brighton for a bed each, the bank in England for the international banking number to be able to transfer money over... It felt lovely to speak English again to someone who doesn't live in our house...

Wednesday was subsidy-sorting day. A few years back, my mother made me aware of an organisation that helped people who could do with a bit of financial back-up, things like sports clubs for the kids and exemption from certain council taxes. Sounded like a good thing, i thought, for people who need it. There's plenty in Holland, but i didn't consider us one of them. But the last year we haven't had enough month left at the end of the money... So the people who wanted to help us with that, came round for coffee and a chat. Now the next moves are up to me...

Today i've done part one of my posting round, and will have tea with Patricia, so that we can talk through our trip... Only 6 weeks to go...

The new school year started with a bang... Not only here, but in the school of Polly and Felix there were a few feathers ruffled, when it became clear that not only Patricia had decided to chose a different, smaller school (in Belgium) for her kids, but also 2 other families, with 4 kids between them, which resulted in three less kids in Polly's class and three less in Felix' (where 2 kids had already left, bumping up the grand total in the whole school to about 12 people). The little gathering of all the kids from school to welcome the new first years looked a tad sorry... But nonetheless i sensed the same warmth and special feeling that came to me when i first got to know the school. People come and people go, times change, we all move on one way or other, but the specific Steiner school efforts that were made that morning, when my little girl leapt over the rosestick, full of love for life, and we all sang that one song that makes me cry every time, i knew that this was going to always be good enough for me...

The stars appear, first one by one,
then thousands are twinkling and i count none
then thousands are twinkling and i count none...
