Now that Max comes downstairs with his acoustic guitar to show off his newly learnt songs every so often, i get to realise how intricate and complicated a lot of songs i take for granted really are... He showed us all how 'Stairway to heaven' ought to be played, and i was gob smacked... 'Tears in heaven' got the same reaction and recently he had a go at Yesterday, which turns out to be a lot more complex than i always thought... I knew that Paul McCartney is a pretty decent guitarist/songwriter/singer, but watching Max get to grips with the many (many!) chord changes, while attempting to sing the words, i knew why the Beatles were such an influence on all future (pop)music.
Then he had a go at Blackbird. One of my faves, simple little song, lovely acoustic guitar sounds... Max knows how to play it now, and i'm quite amazed he hasn't tried to throw his guitar out the window... Hearing my son play it, though, gives it another meaning... Love it even more now...
