- a day by the sea -

Today we went to the sea.
We were looking forward to that, even though the weather forecast wasn't glorious and the wind was going to be blustery.
But we had lived by the sea before, zo surely we would still be used to the wind, and how it can blow you to a pulp...
We thought...

At first, we noticed - having arrived in Zoutelande, Zeeland - that there were rather a lot of parkingplaces free... Were Germans avoiding the coast on a massive scale? Did they know something that we didn't? Full of hope we parked the car, carried the stuff we brought up the dune and there we were confronted by fences. Loads of them... Miles of 'm...
And a beach that looked like this:

Normally the beach is stretched out, but now there were heaps of stones and loads of bulldozers. A big sign explained that the dunes were being brought up to date, protecting Zeeland for a super-flood. and it would take some time yet before it would be finished. The fence was left with a small gap, for adventurous tourists, who weren't scared of the rocks, sand and bulldozers. We went for it...The wind was quite blustery, but we were used to plenty worse, so we planted out chairs in the sand, Otto put on his swimming trunks (real!) and Felix started digging...

And Alan pretended he was in Honolulu, as usual:

to be continued....
