Thanks to a clear out that my brother has had in his attic - for reasons entirely clear to himself but not us - my father's shed (which used to be his office-space and now holds loads of Things In-between Use) has been filled with about 12 banana boxes full of books. They are on various subjects, mainly on marketing and plenty of novels, but a big chunk consisted of psychology-related tomes - very weighty, very dense, very uninviting. Both my brother and i have - unknown to each other, i presume - a fascination with the human mind, how it works and how it can be changed or developed, and although i've always thought that i have read a lot of books on the matter (even attempted to take A-levels, but became thoroughly bored with the academic side of it i.e. essay-writing...), but this really took the biscuit... Jung, Freud, Erickson, Bowlby - you name it, a book by him was in there... Previously he has passed on Dutch magazines with Psychology as it's title, and we presumed that that was it. It wasn't: we plucked out loads of works, with many different subjects. Maybe he could start a psycho-analysis practice, if his marketing career was to take a plunge...

Fortunately for me, three books that i once lent him were in the boxes, which resolved their mysterious disappearance and nobody being able to find them again... Amongst 400 books, i suppose they weren't easy to spot...

Alan was thrilled to not only spot plenty of psycho-stuff to keep him busy for a while, but also loads of French grammar books and dictionaries (Dutch/French...)... At least one of us should be able to order more than croissants or baguettes...

Oh well - we shouldn't have to 'waste' hours in second-hand bookshops for some time to come.... Thanks Jan!
