Thanks to a bit in the blog-post of fellow blogger Lizette, i was reminded of the love i felt - instantaneously - for the band Beirut. Not the town (never been there, but never say never...), but the band, or is it only the singer who is accompanied by other musicians? Whatever - the music (like this) conjures up in me an atmosphere of bohemian life, of arts, of colours, of living life by your own rules, of travelling around and the kind of intense love one can feel for things, or people, of or just life itself... Of poverty, and expression, and a childish impulsiveness.
I first got to know them when a Belgian radio station played Nantes a lot, and it bowled me over so much, that i looked up all their other stuff on Youtube. There i was knocked out by the other beautiful songs, and the singer himself... The clips are a joy to watch and totally supplement the mood of the songs. The only distraction is the singer, but i'm learning to live with that...
The cd has found it's way back into the car stereo, and i carry on being lifted into another world every time...
he there, Other Daan, an Award for you at my Blog!
