I could be celebrating the end of summer, as some pagans are doing near here, but i'm still deep in the afterglow of watching Little Miss Sunshine with all 4 (!!!) kids and Alan. Always a guarantee for fun and laughter, and we thought the 'little ones' were ready to watch it now. The older 2 have seen it before and fancied another view, so with crisps and cola within reach, we settled on sofa and rocking chair.
Felix had to know exactly what was going on all the time - why is the brother not talking, and why is the uncle so depressed, and why does the granddad swear so much, and... Just watch it, Felix, it'll become clear...
I remember seeing the film in the cinema in Roosendaal, a few years back, being in stitches just about all the way through. Especially the starting up of the car, or the horn being on the blink... And then when the boy realises that his dream is in tatters, because of a medical problem, that made me cry, even the fourth time around... His uncle's wisdom, a bit later, which he shares with him when the boy declares he hates teenage, that he would miss out on so much suffering, which would last him the rest of his life, that rang true with the two teenagers on the left of me... (Max reminded me so much of him...). And the end, when it becomes clear that granddad has been teaching Olive something quite vulgar - maybe his way of declaring his disgust with the whole beauty pageant thing (I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here...) - was worth another fit of laughter, from all 6...
We all loved the music in the film, so i went to have a look on The Net to find out who was responsible for it. I ended up with Devotchka. Eh? Exactly... But since tonight i'm hooked... Here's a few examples:
